He’s the fifth artist killed during the attack on Charlie Hebdo: Philippe Honor√©, 73, shot dead by the attackers this Wednesday. He regularly collaborated with the weekly satirical magazine and had also published several works. His name was just added to those of Cabu, Wolinski, Charb, and Tignous, pillars of Charlie Hebdo‘s editorial team.

Translation

Cabu, who would have turned 77 in a week, sketched the world with his acerbic pencil for 60 years. It was his caricatures of Mohammed published in 2006 that led to Charlie Hebdo‘s recurring death threats. Another spiritual father of news comics, Geoges Wolinski, 80, also educated in the 60s at Hara-Kiri, the forerunner of Charlie Hebdo.

Translation

As for Charb, also known as St√©phane Charbonnier, the publication’s director, he was the main target of the threats uttered against the newspaper and therefore benefitted from close protection. The assigned police officer was also killed.

Another victim of the attack: Tignous, real name Bernard Verlhac, was also a cartoonist, and also worked for Marianne, Télérama, and Fluide Glacial.

Trois autres membres de la r√©daction figurent sur la liste des victimes : l’√©conomiste Bernard Maris, plus connu des lecteurs sous le nom d’Oncle Bernard, la psychanalyste Elsa Cayat, qui tenait une chronique deux fois par mois dans Charlie Hebdo et Moustapha Ourrad, qui occupait le poste de correcteur.

Three other members of the editorial team are on the list of victims: the economist Bernard Maris, better known to readers as Uncle Bernard; the psychoanalyst Elsa Cayat, who had a column in Charlie Hebdo twice a month; and Moustapha Ourrad, who was the proofreader.

Also present at the editorial meeting this Wednesday was Michel Renaud, creator of the travel journal festival in Clermont-Ferrand; he’d responded to Cabu’s invitation and had come to return some drawings borrowed during the last edition of the biennial event.
