L’Avent Advent

Bonjour Ă  tous !

Bonjour.

Translation

Hello everyone!

Hello.

For most people, this is what Advent means:

Well, me, well every day I have a calendar, and I open a square and then inside I have a chocolate and I [eat] it—

Translation

And that’s not all! I also have a little pine bough wreath that I hang on my front door, that way my neighbors see it and they think it’s really pretty.

Well, ok, ok, but it’s not just that. Above all, Advent marks the start of the new liturgical year according to the church’s calendar.

[collapse]

Tchin !

Translation

As a result, when you’re Catholic, you can celebreat the new year before everyone (else).

Five … four … three … two … one … happy new year!

What are you doing?

We’re celebrating the new year!

Cheers!

Translation

During Advent, we spot new colors at the church. Usually, the priest wears a green chasuble. There [during Advent], he wears a purple chasuble.

And it looks really good on him!

And the third Sunday of Advent, he might wear a pink chasuble. Pink is a lighter purple, to announce the new year to come.

Or a faded red.

Or a lighter purple.

Translation

Advent is the period during which the faithful get ready to celebrate Christmas. That is,

  • the coming of Christ as a man
  • his eternal presence in our hearts
  • the future glory of Christ which will come back at the end of time

He came, he’s coming, he will come back.

Oh, but that’s Julius Ceasar!

You see this, this here.

[collapse]

Translation

The readings during Advent call for a life closer to Christ, and you even find prophets there who announce his coming.

But you see the thing … yeah, yes, yes, that’s it.

But by the way, why does Advent start four weeks before Christmas?

If you want to know, click here. But hurry up, it’s going to disappear in five … four … three … two … one …

Happy new year!

[collapse]
Translation

And it looks really good on him! I can’t let myself say that.
