A number of French verbs require the preposition par in front of a noun or infinitive.

| entrer par (la porte, le portail) | to enter by (the door, gate) | |

| faire par (pitié, plaisir) | to do (out of pity, for pleasure) | |

| habiter par ici / là | to live around here / there | |
| jurer par | to swear by | |
| obtenir quelque chose par | to obtain something by | |
