Does il est évident / c’est évident require the subjunctive?
Il est évident / C’est évident may require the subjunctive, depending on whether it is used affirmatively, negatively, or interrogatively:
Par exemple…
Il est évident / C’est évident qu’ils savent ce qui s’est passé.
It’s obvious that they know what happened.Il n’est pas évident / Ce n’est pas évident qu’ils sachent ce qui s’est passé.
It’s not obvious that they know what happened.Est-il évident / Est-ce évident qu’ils sachent ce qui s’est passé ?
Is it obvious that they know what happened?
Il est / C’est évident is an impersonal expression.
