Does être certain require the subjunctive?

Être certain may require the subjunctive, depending on whether it is used affirmatively, negatively, or interrogatively:

Par exemple…

Je suis certain que sa maison est par ici.
I’m certain his house is around here.

Je ne suis pas certain que sa maison soit par ici.
I’m not certain his house is around here.

Es-tu certain que sa maison soit par ici ?
Are you certain his house is around here?
