French preposition

The preposition sous is often equivalent to "under," but has other possible translations depending on how it’s used.

1) Location
Ton livre est sous le lit.		Your book is under the bed.
On s’est rencontré sous une statue.		We met under a statue.
J’aime nager sous l’eau.		I like swimming under water.
2) Weather
sous la pluie		in the rain
être sous la neige		covered with snow
se promener sous le soleil		to walk in the sun
3) Amount of time
sous peu		before long
sous deux heures		within two hours
sous huitaine		within a week
4) Era
sous son règne		during his rein
sous la Ve République		during the Fifth Republic
