Does trouver require the subjunctive?
Trouver que may require the subjunctive, depending on whether it is used affirmatively, negatively, or interrogatively.
Par exemple…
Nous trouvons que c’est une bonne idée.
We think it’s a good idea.Nous ne trouvons pas que ce soit une bonne idée.
We don’t think it’s a good idea.Trouvez-vous que ce soit une bonne idée ?
Do you think it’s a good idea?
À noter : The above is correct according to Le Bon Usage and Le Grand Robert, among others. However, so many native speakers mistakenly use the indicative when trouver is in the negative or interrogative that many now believe the subjunctive to be optional. Others disagree.
