Does signifier require the subjunctive?
Signifier may require the subjunctive, depending on whether it is used affirmatively, negatively, or interrogatively:
Par exemple…
Cela signifie que tu peux quitter l’hôpital. (no subjunctive)
That means you can leave the hospital.Cela ne signifie pas que tu peux / puisses quitter l’hôpital. (optional subjunctive)
That doesn’t mean you can leave the hospital.Est-ce que cela signifie que tu puisses quitter l’hôpital ? (required subjunctive)
Does that mean you can leave the hospital?
