Qui part premièrement ? Who leaves first?
Translation

During the five years that my husband and I lived in the south of France, we were lucky enough to eat in about 40 French friends’ homes, and there’s something that every visit had in common: no one wanted to be the first to end the evening.

Translation

Even when you’ve finished eating hours before and the hosts are yawning and the guests are visibly weary, everyone continues chatting long after the clock has struck midnight. When someone finally announces that he’s leaving, everyone gets up as one and heads for the door.

Translation

For a long time, I thought this was just a simple fear of offending the hosts by leaving too early, and thus that it was something that happened only in homes, but then the same thing happened to my husband at an association meeting.

Translation

After finishing the agenda, the members exchanged desultory conversation for half an hour. When my husband finally said he had to leave, everyone reacted as if the starter’s pistol had gone off.

[collapse]
Translation

So I don’t know why it’s like that. What about you? Have you had a similar experience?
