Essential French Expression
Meaning | me too, so do I | |
Literally | me also | |
Register | normal | |
Pronunciation | [mwah oh see]
IPA | [mwa o si] |
Usage notes: Moi aussi is a quick way to agree with what someone just said.
Par exemple…
– J’aime ce film. – Moi aussi. | – I like this movie. – Me too.
– Je préfère le livre. – Moi aussi. | – I prefer the book. – So do I. |
The stressed pronoun moi can be replaced with any other stressed pronoun to indicate another person’s agreement with a statement.
toi aussi | you too, so do you
lui aussi | him too, so does he
elle aussi | her too, so does she
nous aussi | us too, so do we
vous aussi | you too, so do you
eux aussi | them too, so do they
elles aussi | them too, so do they |
Par exemple…
– Il aime ce film. – Nous aussi. | – He likes this movie. – So do we.
– Elle aime ce livre. – Eux aussi. | – She likes this book. – Them too. |
The stressed pronoun can also be replaced with a noun or name:
l’épicier aussi | so does the grocer, the grocer does too
les étudiants aussi | so do the students, the students do too
Henri aussi | so does Henri, Henri does too
Hélène et Laure aussi | so do Hélène and Laure, Hélène and Laure do too |
Par exemple…
– Mon fils aime cette émission. – Mes enfants aussi. | – My son likes this show. – So do my kids.
– Je veux partir. – Marc aussi. | – I want to leave. – Marc does too. |
Moi aussi cannot agree with a negative statement; for that, you need moi non plus.
