Wine-y French Expression
| Meaning | This year’s Beaujolais Nouveau has arrived! | |
| Literally | The new has arrived! | |
| Register | normal | |
| Pronunciation | [leu noo voh ay tah ree vay] | |
| IPA | [lə nu vo e ta ri ve] | |
Usage notes: Le nouveau est arrivé ! was once the slogan for Beaujolais Nouveau Day, the third Thursday in November when wine lovers in France and around the world race to take part in the traditional tasting of the year’s Beaujolais Nouveau. This slogan was a slight modification of the original slogan from the 1950s, Le beaujolais nouveau est arrivé.
Nowadays, the official slogan is supposedly English: "It’s Beaujolais Nouveau time" (oh là là !), but I’ve yet to find an official French-language site that verifies or even mentions this slogan – they all seem to use the original Le beaujolais nouveau est arrivé. If you come across a decent-sized French site that uses the English slogan, please let me know.
In the meantime, bonne dégustation !
