Usage notes: Cadre is one of those French words with a great many meanings. The most basic is "frame," in the sense of a physical structure (e.g., bike frame) as well as the rectangle that surrounds a photo or painting. By extension, le cadre means "scope" as in figurative limits. So the French expression dans le cadre de describes something within the limits of a particular context or framework.
