Usage notes: The informal French phrase vite fait has two meanings.
The first describes some task or activity as done quickly (and not necessary well).
Par exemple…
| Allons prendre un verre, vite fait. | Let’s have a quick drink. | |
| Il s’est tiré vite fait. | He was off like a shot. | |
| Tu dois l’appeler, vite fait. | You need to call him, pronto. | |
| Je vais juste vérifier mes messages, vite fait. | I’m just going to check my messages real quick. | |
| C’est du vite fait ! | It was a rush job (poorly done)! |
To specify that a task was done quickly but well, add bien fait.
Par exemple…
| J’ai fini mes devoirs vite fait, bien fait. | I finished my homework nice and quickly. | |
| On a nettoyé la cuisine vite fait, bien fait. | We quickly cleaned up the kitchen. | |
| C’est du vite fait, bien fait. | It was a nice quick job (well done). |
The second meaning of vite fait is "to a certain extent."

| Cette fille te ressemble, vite fait. | That girl looks a little like you. | |
| Oui je comprends, vite fait. | Yes I understand, sort of. |
