Usage notes: The French word vrac refers to any sort of product – edible or inedible – that isn’t packaged in the traditional manner. It’s mainly used in the adverbial expression en vrac.

| Je préfère acheter les pois chiches en vrac. | I prefer buying unpackaged chickpeas / chickpeas in bulk / bulk chickpeas. | |
| Le vin en vrac est souvent imbuvable. | Bulk wine (e.g., box wine) is often undrinkable. |
En vrac can also refer to any group of items jumbled together.

And it can be used figuratively for intangibles like ideas.
