NI

French pronunciation

The letter combination ni has two possible pronunciations.

1) When followed by a vowel, it’s pronounced [nj], like in the English word "onion."

Par exemple…
un grenier attic
une nièce niece

2) In front of a consonant, the n and i are pronounced [ni].

Par exemple…
une université university
venir to come
