À Paris au mois d’août Paris in August
Translation

The city of Paris is the most sought-after tourist destination in the world. This reputation is maintained all year long, particularly during the month of August. Indeed, many French people leave their beloved city to go spend a few weeks of well-deserved rest at the sea or in the mountains. This leaves the area clear for more and more tourists in the City of Light, which seems to take a summer break.

Translation

But it only appears that way. Some will say that Paris shuts down during the month of August: don’t listen to them. You notice something very pleasant during the month of August in Paris: everyone is more relaxed. Whereas all year, it’s business and busy life that prevail, during this blessed month, the inhabitants of Paris who don’t go on vacation show a certain nonchalance which is nice to see: nothing seems very important since the sun is shining!

Translation

The question people often ask is, "What’s open in August in Paris?" Of the 8,000 restaurants in the capital, a good number will maintain their normal opening hours, while the 250 museums and art galeries will sometimes have limited hours or will only allow access to their permanent collections. But that’s more than enough for hours of exploration.

Translation

You can also consult the calendar of activities and events which take place this month on the City of Paris’s internet site or just make do with the many flea markets or farmers’ markets that practically never close. Good news for those who love Pierre Hermès’s products in the 6th [arrondissement]: his shop will be open during its normal hours.

Translation

In any case, have no fear: the relaxed ambiance of the City of Light and the rediscovered kindness of its inhabitants (who are admittedly sometimes a bit grumpy) will convince you that the month of August in Paris can be full of charm.
