[… du 14 Juillet] vient de se terminer lorsque, tout Ă  coup, un camion fonce sur la foule. Un mouvement de panique commence alors, les personnes se trouvant sur place trouvent refuge lĂ  oĂą elles le peuvent.
Translation

[Bastille Day …] had just ended when, suddenly, a truck drove into the crowd. A panicked movement then began, the people there finding refuge where they could.

Donc on a eu tellement peur, on a tous sautĂ© en bas de … en fait c’est au niveau des plages, on a 3 mètres de mur, de murette qu’on a sautĂ©s et on est partis. Et on a vu des cadavres partout, quoi, c’Ă©tait horrible.
Translation

We were so afraid, we all squatted below .. in fact, it was by the beach, there was a three-meter wall, little wall that we jumped over and we left. And we saw bodies everywhere, it was horrible.

Rapidement, les policiers abattent le conducteur. Ă€ bord du camion ils auraient retrouvĂ© des papiers d’identitĂ© ainsi qu’une arme. Un pĂ©rimètre de sĂ©curitĂ© est alors Ă©tabli tout autour du quartier. Les hĂ©licoptères de la sĂ©curitĂ© civile et de nombreux militaires se dĂ©ploient sur les lieux.
Translation

The police very quickly shot the driver. On the truck, they found ID papers as well as a weapon. A security perimeter was then set up all around the area. Civil security helicopters and many soldiers were deployed to the area.

Les ambulances, elles, Ă©vacuent les nombreux blessĂ©s mais pour beaucoup il est dĂ©jĂ  trop tard. De nombreuses personnes restent assises, l’air hagard, auprès d’un proche dĂ©cĂ©dĂ©. Le ministre de l’IntĂ©rieur, Bernard Cazeneuve, s’est rendu sur place dans la soirĂ©e.
Translation

Ambulances evacuated many wounded people but it was already too late for a lot of them. Many people remained seated, distraught, next to a deceased loved one. The Minister of the Interior, Bernard Cazeneuve, arrived in the evening.

Nos pensĂ©es vont, encore une fois, aux familles de ces victimes, Ă  ceux qui sont aujourd’hui, durement touchĂ©s, plongĂ©s dans un immense chagrin, mais aussi Ă  l’ensemble des habitants de la ville de Nice, qui sont ce soir profondĂ©ment traumatisĂ©s et plongĂ©s dans l’inquiĂ©tude.

Translation

Our thoughts go, once again, to the families of these victims, to those who are today severely affected and plunged into deep sadness, but also to the inhabitants of the city of Nice, who are deeply traumatized and thrown into incertainty this evening.

The Alpes-Maritime Prefecture advises residents to stay home. A welcome unit for the victims’ families has been opened.
