A number of French verbs require the preposition par in front of a noun or infinitive.

arriver par + noun   to succeed through/by
to arrive from
commencer par + infinitive

différer par + noun   to be different due to
entrer par (la porte, le portail) to enter by (the door, gate)
être célèbre par + noun   to be famous for
faire par (pitié, plaisir) to do (out of pity, for pleasure)
finir par + infinitive
finir par

to end up ___-ing / to finally do something
to end with
habiter par ici / là to live around here / there
jurer par to swear by
obtenir quelque chose par to obtain something by
prendre quelqu’un par (la main) to take someone by (the hand)
se promener par + noun   to walk through / across
se ressembler par + noun to resemble due to
sortir par (la porte, le portail) to leave by (the door, gate)
terminer par + infinitive
terminer par
+ noun
to end by ___-ing
to end with
venir par (le chemin, la côte) to come along/by (the trail, coast)
