Usage notes: The French prepositional phrase à l’égard de usually describes the recipient of an action or attitude, equivalent to English prepositions like "to" and "toward."

Par exemple…

Elle est gentille à l’égard de tous.   She is kind to everyone.
Je n’aime pas son attitude à l’égard de ce projet.   I don’t like his attitude toward this project.

Variation

When there’s a human antecedent for the recipient, you can use a possessive adjective in place of de + noun:

Je ne sais quoi faire à son égard.   I don’t know what to do about him.
Il est toujours sympa à mon égard.   He’s always nice to me.
Ton attitude à leur égard est affreuse.   Your attitude toward them is terrible.

Synonyms

À l’égard de can also be used to relate or compare two things.

À l’égard de ce projet, nous devons …   Concerning this project, we need to …
Mon appartement est très petit à l’égard du sien.   My apartment is very small compared to his.

Égard means "consideration" or "respect" toward something and is used in a variety of phrases.

avoir égard à (qqchose)   to take (something) into consideration
n’avoir aucun égard pour   to have no consideration for
par égard pour   out of consideration for
sans égard pour   without consideration for

When referring to consideration/respect toward people, égards is generally plural.

avoir beaucoup d’égards pour   to show great consideration toward
être plein d’égards pour   to be very considerate toward
manquer d’égards envers   to show a lack of consideration toward
recevoir (qqun) avec de grands égards.   to welcome (someone) with every consideration.
