Usage notes: The French adverbial phrase à l’avance is pretty straightforward: it means "in advance" or "ahead of time."

Par exemple…

Il faut réserver une table deux semaines à l’avance.   You have to reserve a table two weeks in advance.
N’oubliez pas de me prévenir un jour à l’avance.   Don’t forget to remind me a day ahead of time / the day before.
