Chers amis:

Bon aprem et super lundi, tlm! L'expression francais; "faire abstraction de" signifie en anglais: "to disregard/ to set aside/ to leave aside." Mais litteralement. c'est "to make an abstraction of"' It's the total opposite of the meaning. Pourquoi?? Les reponses, svp. A bientot!

Bonjour Robert

On peut dire, également : s'affranchir de...

Cher Denis:

Mais le verbe "S'Affranchir de" signifie "to get free from". It doesn't really answer my question.

What happens to your relationship with something when you set it aside? Are you free of it?

Cher Andy: So I should use "S'Affranchir" instead of "Faire abstraction de"? C'est plus facile pour moi than to write out a longer expression.

Denis a suggéré que les deux verbes puissent être équivalents. J'ignore si cela s'applique en n'importe quel cas.
